EVENT DETAILS
On December 10, 2007, The Pew Institute for Ocean Science at the University of Miami will kick-off a five day workshop on management of Kazakhstan’s Caspian Sea sturgeons.

Four delegates from key agencies charged with managing sturgeons will travel from Kazakhstan to attend the event, marking a first time in the USA for most. Kazakhstani attendees will meet with USA experts in the fields of stock assessment and genetic techniques to discuss application to management of sturgeons in Kazakhstan’s Ural River, the last remaining river off the Caspian Sea where sturgeons reproduce unhindered by dams.

Funded by Agip KCO, a consortium working on Caspian Sea energy production, and assisted by The Central Park Zoo and The American Museum of Natural History, this event marks the continuation of an ongoing collaboration between Kazakhstani and American scientists to conserve one of the world’s last great remaining sturgeon populations.
