January 17, 2007 - Seaspan
By Polita Glynn

Calestous Juma, Pew Fellow and director of the Belfer Center’s Science, Technology, and Globalization project, has been awarded the honor of the Elder of the Order of the Burning Spear (EBS) by President Mwai Kibaki of Kenya in recognition of his achievements and distinguished service to the nation. The prestigious honors are given annually in recognition of outstanding or distinguished services rendered to the nation in various capacities and responsibilities.

Juma's contributions include establishing the African Centre for Technology Studies (ACTS), the continent's first independent think tank on the application of science and technology to development. He is also a member of the President's National Economic and Social Council. Juma is also cited as a respected “international diplomat who has assisted governments to solve diplomatic problems”.
