Ezcurra Cited in BioScience
January 18, 2007 - Seaspan
By Polita Glynn

The Sea of Cortez research conducted by Pew Fellow Exequiel Ezcurra is cited in an article that addresses new interest in the research of Edward F. Ricketts, the maverick marine biologist immortalized in the writings of John Steinbeck, who foresaw the impacts of overfishing in the Pacific more than 75 years ago. Following the 1940 journey of Steinbeck and Ricketts through the Sea of Cortez, historical writing is compared with current marine conditions. In the article, Ezcurra addresses his work that studies the relationship between seabird breeding and collapse and its link to the Southern Oscillation Index (SOI).
